Meeting materials and agenda
Cranston’s City Plan Commission will meet to review the Comprehensive Plan and a zoning ordinance ammendment that will affect housing.
Among the most significant items is the Independence Way proposal, a potential 192-unit housing development that would require a zone change to move forward. This early-stage discussion is an important moment for supporters of smart growth and housing abundance to express encouragement for new homes in Cranston.
Other items include the Lake View Development, which would create five new home lots on Hope Road, and smaller infill subdivisions on Beckwith Street and Old Oak Avenue. These projects represent opportunities to expand the city’s housing stock and make more efficient use of existing land and infrastructure.
Public comment is encouraged during the hearing portion of the meeting. Interested residents are welcome to attend in person or remotely. The session will also be livestreamed on the City of Cranston YouTube channel.
For those unable to attend, meeting materials and staff reports will be posted in advance on the Planning Department’s website.
