Woonsocket Parking Reform

Parking Reform can be the difference between a building sitting empty or coming back to life.

Many older Main Street properties in cities like Woonsocket were built long before parking requirements existed.

Woonsocket Councilor Kristina Fox has introduced a parking reform ordinance that would assist in creating housing along mainstreet.

Today, strict minimums can make it financially or physically impossible to convert upper floors into housing or repurpose vacant storefronts, simply because there’s no room to add new parking.

By easing or eliminating those requirements, adaptive reuse projects become far more feasible while creating new homes, supporting small businesses, and bringing more foot traffic to the area.
